Don’t Take Anything Personally: A Few Thoughts From Our President, Jeff Russell

Last week in my message, I shared some thoughts about the first agreement from The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. So today, I wanted to talk more about the second agreement – don’t take anything personally.

That is so easy to type and say, but often much more challenging to implement into our lives.

Here are some tips that have helped me make this process easier:

  1. Nothing other people do is because of you. Read that a few times and let it sink in. It’s important, and once you grasp it, it can be a game changer in your daily life.
  2. This might be my favorite from this agreement. It’s not you, for god sake; it’s them. They are not going home thinking about how they wronged you or why they said something. So, why in the world are you!?
  3. Another tip – whatever someone else thinks, however someone else feels, know it is their problem, not yours. It’s the way they see the world, and you cannot control that.

As you go into the week, keep these concepts in mind. If you find yourself in a situation where you might instinctively lean toward taking something personally, take some time to think about these words.

I am confident that the moment you stop taking things personally, the happier you will be in life.

Life is good. Jeff
